Scholarships:
The Ford Amateur Astronomy Club offers a limited number of scholarships each spring to encourage student participation and excellence in science related education. The scholarships are available to graduating high school seniors. Details and an application form can be found in the file "FAAC Scholarship Application."
The Ford Amateur Astronomy Club has an established observing site, by permit, at the Spring Mill Pond area of the Island Lake Recreational Area in Brighton, Michigan located near the intersections of I-96 and US-23. All club members have the responsibility for opening, closing and locking the gate after the parks 10:00pm closing time. Access for the lock should be available from one of our club members or club officers at the observing site during an observing session. All visiting guests should be accompanied by a FAAC club member. Please send a note to the FAAC List Service to let us know that you would like to attend an observing session so that we can make arrangements for you. Always lock the gate behind you after 10:00pm whether entering or leaving the park. Don't forget to place the key back in the lock box immediately after use. It is our only means of entering and exiting the park after hours.
Membership to the Ford Amateur Astronomy Club is open to both Ford and Non-Ford Motor Company employees. The general public is also welcome to join. The dues structure is as follows:
New Member Annual Individual/Family |
$30.00
|
Renewals |
$25.00
|
Membership benefits include a subscription to the Star Stuff newsletter, discounts on subscriptions to Astronomy and/or Sky & Telescope magazine(s), after hour use of the observing site at Island Lake & Lake Erie Metro Park and discounts at selected area astronomical equipment retailers. Here is an application if you want to fill it out and send it to the treasurer
